This name also has to do with the Place de la Comédie, Montpellier's main square in city center. It is actually the largest pedestrian square in all of Europe. On this square is located Montpellier's National Opera as well. The opera/theatre was built in the 19th century in an Italian style and is a central point in the city where people come to meet and drink a coffee or go to watch a play or opera.
